"Michaelmas" or the "Feast of St. Michael and All Angels" is an ancient "feast day" marking a quarter-day of the year, delineating the onset of Autumn, anciently demanding the election of Reeves, demanding payment of accounts and celebrated dining on Goose or special bannocks (cakes).
