» Labris Habeit
Translated from the Yom Kippur prayers:
As raw material in the hand of the artisan
If he wills it he can expand it, & if he wills it he can shorten it
So we are in Your hand, He who crafts kindness
Look at the covenant, and don't turn to the Yetzer (inclination)
As a stone in the hand of a sculptor
If he wills it he will hold it, & if he wills it he can crush it
So we are in Your hand, He who grants life and death
Look at the covenant, and don't turn to the Yetzer
As an axe in the hand of a woodworker
If he wills it he can form it by bringing it to the fire, & if he wills it he can do nothing with it
So we are in Your hand, He who supports the poor and impoverished
Look at the covenant, and don't turn to the Yetzer
As the sail in the hand of a sailor
If he wills it he holds on to it, & if he wills it he leaves go
So we are in Your hand, kind and forgiving God
Look at the covenant, and don't turn to the Yetzer
